Cambodia has closed 72 casinos as part of a year-long crackdown on online scam centers. The move follows inspections across the country’s licensed gambling sector.
China’s state news agency Xinhua reported the findings this week. Investigators checked 195 licensed casinos and found 72 operating illegally through internet scams.
The Cambodia-China Times newspaper also covered the closures. It said all 72 businesses have now stopped operating.
A government report obtained by the outlet gave more detail. Of the 72 casinos, 19 had their licenses revoked over alleged fraud links.
Another 30 casinos had their licenses suspended. The remaining 23 closed because their licenses simply expired.
The crackdown ran from June 2025 to June 2026. Officials raided 737 illegal online scam businesses during that period.
Scam Sites And Locations Targeted
Authorities investigated 665 locations suspected of online fraud. This happened over the 12 months leading up to June 30.
Of those sites, 582 were described as alleged criminal operations. The other 83 were flagged as suspected hideouts for people connected to scam networks.
Enforcement teams shut down 537 locations in total. The numbers show the campaign reached both scam operations and hiding spots.
Xinhua also reported on deportations tied to the crackdown. As of June 30, 2026, Cambodia had deported 21,102 foreigners from 38 countries.
Law enforcement did not stop at closures and deportations. Officials referred 268 cases to the courts, involving 2,773 suspects.
