The UK Gambling Commission has suspended the operating licences of BresBet Ltd and Bet St George Ltd. The regulator cited suspected failures in social responsibility and anti-money laundering controls.
Both companies are now under formal review under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005. The suspension took effect right away.
BresBet runs the website bresbet.com. Bet St George operates betstgeorge.com.
The suspension will stay in place until the Commission is satisfied that both businesses meet compliance standards. No timeline has been given for when that review will end.
Bet St George was founded in Sheffield in June 2025. It launched its gambling site in March 2026.
BresBet was also founded in Sheffield, in March 2021. The company has sponsored horse racing and greyhound racing events.
BresBet secured remote operating permissions in February 2025. It confirmed the suspension in a post on X last Friday.
The company said it is “currently temporarily unavailable” while it works through the matter. It promised further updates when appropriate.
What Happens During the Suspension
Betting activity is paused for both operators while the review continues. Customers cannot place new bets during this time.
Account access remains open for both platforms. Users can still log in and check their balances.
Withdrawals are also allowed during the suspension. Both companies said they will keep customers informed through their websites.
