Cambodia’s gambling regulator is working on a new way to check casino operators before they get or renew a license. The Commercial Gambling Management Commission, known as the CGMC, is building the plan now.

The regulator’s General Secretariat held a meeting on Friday, September 4. Officials gathered to look over a draft framework for reviewing casino operators.

The goal is to set minimum standards operators must meet. This would apply both to new license applications and to renewals of existing ones.

The evaluation will be based on Cambodia’s current gambling laws. The CGMC said the plan also reflects a need to strengthen the country’s commercial gambling sector.

What The Framework Will Cover

The proposed system focuses on three areas. These are integrity, quality, and the overall suitability of casino operators.

Yeth Vinel, secretary-general of the CGMC, chaired the meeting. Representatives from the Internal Audit Unit, technical advisers, and department directors also took part.

During the session, participants reviewed the draft and gave feedback. The regulator is still working through those comments as it refines the framework.

The CGMC has not shared the exact criteria operators will be judged on. It also has not said when the framework will be complete.

This means the plan is still in a review stage. More details are expected once the CGMC finishes its work.
