Brazil Suspends Seven Players Over Match-Fixing Investigation

Seven players from Sport Club Jaraguá are facing a 30-day suspension. The suspension comes after a report found betting irregularities tied to a recent match.

The match in question took place on July 4. Jaraguá lost 8-1 to Juventus de Jaraguá do Sul in the Santa Catarina State Championship Serie B.

The Brazilian Football Integrity Unit, known as UIFB, released the report. The unit works alongside the Brazilian Football Confederation.

How Sportradar Flagged the Match

The UIFB report relied on analysis from Sportradar. The company monitors sports betting markets for unusual activity.

Sportradar said it found clear evidence that some bets were placed with knowledge of the match outcome. Betting volumes pointed to a Jaraguá loss by at least seven goals.

The data also showed bettors expected at least eight total goals in the game. Both numbers matched the final result closely.

Betting patterns shifted while the match was still being played. By the 37th minute of the first half, Juventus already led 4-0.

At that point, bets began favoring a Juventus win by six goals or more. Before halftime, that number moved up to seven goals.

The total-goals market followed a similar trend. Bets shifted from seven total goals to eight goals before the half ended.

Sportradar reported that 90 percent of handicap bets predicted a Juventus win by six goals or more. Around 92 percent of total-goals bets
