The Times of India reported on July 27 that the Goa Public Gambling Rules have been finalized by the state home department. But finalizing the rules is only the first step.
Before they can take effect, the rules must be published in the Official Gazette. They also need to sit before the Goa Legislative Assembly for 14 days.
A senior government official told the newspaper it is unlikely there will be enough assembly time before the election. Lawmakers are expected to meet starting August 31, but no one has said how long that session will last.
Until a firm timetable is set, the path to putting the rules into practice stays unclear. Casinos will keep operating under the current system in the meantime.
Gaming Commissioner Role Still Undefined
