TLDR An Oct. 28 Kalshi snapshot priced a four-contract Senate hedge at $3.02 before fees. The package pays $3 gross only if Senate control and seat-count outcomes match. Control can resolve early on media calls, while seat contracts use Senate makeup on Feb. 1, 2027. Mismatched outcomes could pay $4 or $2, leaving traders exposed to settlement risk. Separate Talos research found a positive modeled edge on only a few days for a nine-leg trade.

Prediction market Kalshi’s Senate contracts can settle on different answers to the same election, according to an analysis of prices captured on Oct. 28.

A four-contract hedge built from those markets cost $3.02 before fees. It paid back $3 only if the Senate control and seat-count results matched.

How the Four-Contract Package Works

The package combines one YES position on Democratic Senate control with three NO positions on seat totals. Those seat positions cover exactly 51, exactly 52 and more than 52 Democratic seats.

At the snapshot, control YES cost $0.65. The three NO contracts cost $0.90, $0.84 and $0.63.

If Democrats win control and land in one of those seat ranges, the package pays $3. If Democrats lose control and finish below 51 seats, it also pays $3.

Both cases leave a two-cent loss before fees. No orders were placed.

The control market showed a 64.5% midpoint at 22:11:45 UTC. A rescaled estimate from the seat-count markets put Democratic odds of 51 or more seats at about 62.1%.

A midpoint is halfway between a buyer’s bid and a seller’s asking price. Buying the hedge means paying each seller’s ask.

Different Rules for Settlement

The two contract types do not settle the same way. Kalshi’s control market can resolve early when at least four of eight chosen media outlets call a winner
